Another month has come to an end and I finally got some good news to share - the numbers of my app business are back growing again! Things have been a bit of a rollercoaster lately, so I'm pretty stoked to see these numbers trending in the right direction.
Here are the raw numbers:
💰 $15,866 revenue (+16%)
💸 $7,435 MRR (+6%)
👥 9436 subscribers (+4%)
Let's break it down: My apps pulled in $15,866 this month in total (including subscriptions and one-time purchases), which is a nice 16% bump. The MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue, just including revenue generated by my monthly and annual subscriptions) raised to $7,435 - up 6% from last month. According to that I've got 9,436 subscribers now. That's 4% more than last month.
Seeing the numbers rise again after five months of continues decline, fells pretty good to be honest. Not really sure what exactly caused this trend though: But I like to imagine that the combination of continues improvements to the app (which was a lot of hard work) and some pricing experimentation on iOS with RevenueCat led to this result. On the other hand, you never know how much seasonality plays into this. Maybe it's the first onramp before the Fall/Winter season where people go crazy on habit tracking.
HabitKit Blog
Made a lot of great progress on the HabitKit blog section this week. I finally deployed it with the first three articles available for everyone to read.
The most important article right now is probably Supercharge Your Habit Tracking with HabitKit and iOS Shortcuts because most people have no clue about iOS Shortcuts and Automations and don't really know that this is a thing. Most people I talked to about it were iOS users for almost all their life and had no idea that this exists.
Another great article that you should check out is From Couch to Marathon: How a Simple Habit Tracker Transformed My Fitness Journey which describes my journey how I managed to run a Marathon last year. Hope to get more success stories like this in the future!
The last article Boost Your Habit Tracking with HabitKit Widgets on iOS is also important for some HabitKit users, because I get at least 2 emails per week, asking how to edit widgets on iOS so that they can display more than one habit. This article will be helpful for these users and save me some time explaining the necessary steps over and over.
Design Changes
I am still trying to figure out how to proceed with the new design approach that I'm currently trying out for my habit tracking app HabitKit. It's heavily inspired by the pretty popular UI "library" called shadcn, which I really love in terms of look and feel.
The recent feedback about my screenshots has been mixed with positive and negative vibes. I guess that 60% of the users who voiced their opinion on X and LinkedIn tend to like the old design more. They seem to appreciate the iOS-like card appearance, but I personally prefer the darker version without the background color.
After I implemented the card design for every screen inside the app, I went through every screen and made a screenshot. Did the same for the old design and copied both version in a new Figma board. This makes it much easier to compare both looks and I will probably show this board to a couple of people.
I deployed the first version to TestFlight and will wait how people on the beta like the changes. I hope to get some good feedback there that helps me decide how to process with this change.
That's it for this week, see you in the next one 👋
